Fourteen-inch steel wheels with a hubcap fitted, for Italian subjects, in 1:24 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A covered wheel center does more for a finished car than one would expect. The polished surface in the middle of a fourteen-inch steel rim catches the light differently from the matte pressed sheet around it, and the side of the car gains a second highlight next to the chrome trim and the bumpers. This is exactly how Italian sedans and coupes looked when they left the showroom.
A hubcap visually enlarges the center of the wheel, so the whole circle seems fuller and the spoked impression disappears. On the slim bodywork of the 1960s that means the wheel arch looks better filled, even though the actual diameter has not changed. Together with a low tail and a long hood it brings out the calm horizontal line that Italian designers deliberately held to at the time. If you are building a car for the display case in its original state, this is the detail that tells it apart from a competition version at first glance.
It is best to paint the hubcap separately from the rest of the wheel. A chrome or polished silver shade holds better on a smoothly sanded surface, so take care over the preparation: even a small scratch will stand out under a glossy coat. The edge between the hubcap and the sheet metal of the rim repays a thin dark line, as the wheel then does not merge into one solid disc.
Anyone aiming at the racing or working guise of the car will reach for the bare rim without a cover instead. This set is aimed precisely the other way, at subjects in their original road specification.
