The Cosmis XT-206R is one of the most widespread designs of the current drift and stance scene, and a typical range of colors spread along with it. While production wheels tend to be silver or anthracite, this rim is most often met in reality in a bronze, copper or golden finish. The shade here therefore carries more of the character than the shape does.
Metallic shades have an insidious property when scaled down: the pigment in them keeps a constant size, but the area it falls on is many times smaller. A metallic that looks fine on a real wheel therefore creates a coarse grain on the part. It pays to choose paints with the finest possible pigment and to apply them from a distance in several light coats. Let the last coat go on almost dry; it will unify the surface without smearing the grain.
The eighteen inches given are the diameter of the real subject converted into 1:24 scale, and the car itself is not included. Anyone who wants to carry the impression further can emphasize the recesses between the spokes with a darker shade once it has dried. A bronze wheel thereby gains a modeling that a metallic on a flat surface could never give.
