Self-adhesive masks in 1:24 scale from the Polish maker Montex, cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit frames. The set holds no plastic parts — it helps to spray the canopy frames sharply and evenly and to keep the clear surface free of mist and fingerprints.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter with an air-cooled radial engine of the R-2800 family, a sturdy structure and long range. The F6F-5 version was a later production development with detail changes to the canopy, the armament and the ability to carry underwing stores. The machine was designed with carrier operation in mind, that is with a sturdy wide-track landing gear, folding wings and armor protection for the pilot.
The sliding canopy of the Hellcat has a curved upper part where the mask has to run over the curvature. Lay it down in sections and form the edge gradually with the pressure of a soft tool; never stretch it by force, because it will then spring back and lift. On large areas it helps to split the mask into two or three pieces following the frames. Apply the paint in two thin coats and let it dry thoroughly between them. After the masks are removed, treat the glazing only by polishing or with gloss clear; matte clear would cloud the clear surface.
