A replacement dashboard for the interior of a Honda Civic EG kit in 1:24 scale. It is made for right-hand drive, that is with the steering wheel on the right, as the car ran on the Japanese and British markets.

The real subject

The fifth-generation Civic, known among enthusiasts of the brand by the EG code, was built in the first half of the 1990s and is one of the fixtures of the tuning scene. That is exactly why it is built in both drive arrangements, and the interior tends to be the first thing that does not match in a conversion: a base kit offers only one variant of the dashboard and the other has to be obtained separately.

Building and painting tips

• Before you glue anything, try the part dry in the interior tub and check the height as well as the width of the seating.
• Cut the excess material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the surface down.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the part; if it is not polystyrene, only cyanoacrylate glue will join it.
• Wash and degrease the part before painting and apply a thin primer, so that the edges of the instruments stay legible.
• Finish the instrument panel and the center console with a brush before you close the interior up with the body.
• Check whether your kit needs further parts for the conversion to right-hand drive as well, for example the steering wheel and the column.
