A cooler for compressed air in 1:24 scale as a free-standing part. Variant B is one of several shape versions that the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts makes for builders of car models. It is not a model of a car and not a kit of one, but an accessory that gets added to a build.
An intercooler is a heat exchanger that the air from the turbocharger passes through before it reaches the intake of the engine. The turbo compresses the air and heats it in the process; cooling evens it out in volume and the filling of the cylinders is more uniform. On a real car the size of the cooler is chosen as a compromise, as a larger core cools better but the response of the engine is slower and the cooler fits in behind the bumper less easily. On a model that compromise moves to another level: what decides is how much room is left in the front part of the kit.
The procedure is the classic work with a resin casting. Washing the mold release agent off, separating the casting block with a saw, leveling the surface. With an intercooler, though, one thing more pays off: before you start gluing anything, set the whole front end up dry and use a piece of adhesive tape so that the cooler stays in place. You will see whether the bumper closes over it, whether the tongue of the lower brace needs shortening and at what height the pipework from the turbo comes out. Most problems with the installation arise from the cooler being glued on before the modeler has checked the run of the pipework. The gluing itself is then managed by super glue; large seating surfaces take the gel kind better, as it does not set before you have the part aligned. Once the core and the tanks are painted, bring the grid out with a dark wash, which flows in between the fins and gives them depth.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The part is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and pipework are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
