An injection-molded plastic kit of the Lotus Europa sports coupe in the Special version, in 1:24 scale from the Japanese company Fujimi. The model is glued and painted. The kit has a well worked-out rear axle with the gearbox, rubber tires with a tread pattern and a self-adhesive metal foil for the window frames, which gives the glazing a realistic glossy surround without having to paint thin lines with a brush. The kit belongs to the classic car line of the manufacturer and is suitable for modelers who already have basic experience of building cars.
The Lotus Europa appeared in 1966 as a light sports car with the engine mounted longitudinally behind the cabin and with drive to the rear axle, at a time when this layout was only just making its way from the circuits to the road on production cars. Characteristic is the low silhouette with long side surfaces behind the cabin and the backbone chassis typical of the brand's production of the day. The Special version was the final evolution of the type: it was given a more powerful engine with Dell'Orto carburetors and a five-speed gearbox as optional equipment. It is precisely this variant that is the most sought after of the whole range by collectors.
The body is the main theme on this type, so it pays to invest time in it. After the base coat, sand the surface smooth, apply the paint in several thin coats and finish with gloss varnish; only onto that do the decals belong, and a protective coat of varnish at the end. Deal with the window frames using the enclosed metal foil, as it gives a cleaner result than masking. Finish and fit the interior and the engine bay before you close the body up. Do not glue the chrome parts with classic cement for plastic, but with cyanoacrylate or with cement for glazing, so that the surface finish is not damaged.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
