1:24 Luftwaffe Wheel Chocks from AIMS are wooden chocks placed under the wheels of Luftwaffe machines for airfield scenes.
Responsibility details are not available.
Chocks under the wheels belonged to the most ordinary and at the same time the most ubiquitous equipment of every air base. On a model in a large scale their absence shows immediately, because the machine looks as if it were floating above the base. This set is an accessory to a German aircraft and to figures of the ground personnel. The parts are small, so it pays to unpack them over a tray with a rim.
A machine with the brakes released will start to move even on the slightest slope, and during an engine run-up at full power it can shift forward even with the brakes applied. A chock driven in front of a wheel and behind it prevents that. German practice worked with wooden pieces joined by a cord or a strap, so that the mechanic pulled them out from under the wing with one movement and did not have to crawl under the machine.
Wood comes out convincingly when you lay a thin brown wash over a light base and bring out the edges with drybrushing once it has dried. Suggest the worn places with graphite or a very dark gray; the metal handles will take a hint of corrosion. There is no need to overdo it: the chocks tended to be scuffed and dirty with oil, but certainly not falling apart.
