Porsche 959 1:24: a colored 3D-printed interior on decal paper

An accessory from the Quinta Studio brand for a model of the Porsche 959 in 1:24 scale. It is not a kit of a car but a set of colored interior features that, according to the name, are printed three-dimensionally and laid on decal paper. They serve to make the inside of the model look three-dimensional and faithful in color without the slow hand painting of small detail. The set is designed for the Tamiya kit.

The real subject

The Porsche 959 appeared in the mid-1980s as the technological summit of the brand. It was powered by a turbocharged flat-six, the power was divided among all four wheels by a controlled clutch, and the car offered a combination of top speed and everyday usability that was unusual for its day. Its homologation basis for Group B never saw racing in that category; instead the 959 took victory in the Paris-Dakar rally in 1986. The interior followed on from the production Porsche 911 of the time, supplemented by instruments monitoring the distribution of drive.

Usage tips

• First paint the surfaces under the interior in a base tone and let them dry thoroughly.
• Work with tweezers and a soft brush; the individual features are small.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions and start with the largest parts.
• Do not use decal softener or setting solution; the chemicals would damage the printed feature.
• A finished interior can be evened out with a matte varnish so that the features blend with their surroundings.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want the inside of a car at the level of its outside, and for those whose hand-painted instrument panels and upholstery do not come out as they imagine. It comes into its own especially on models with a glass roof or open doors, where the interior is clearly visible.
