Silencer SPEC L 1:24, a sports exhaust tip, Yamamoto Model Parts

This item is not a model of a car but a sports muffler with a tip in 1:24 scale. Yamamoto Model Parts makes several mufflers and they differ in the shape of the tip and in their overall proportions; this one carries the marking SPEC L. The abbreviation in the name is the only reliable detail by which you will recognize the variant, as the basic muffler of the line has no additional marking.

What the accessory is for

The rear end of a car is clearly visible on a 1:24 model and the exhaust plays the leading part on it. Kits usually mold it as a blind part with no hollow mouth, which gives away at close quarters that it is a simplification. A free-standing tip has the mouth hollow and the edge crisp, so the model looks more faithful with no further work. On a build in the Japanese tuning style the type of tip is on top of that part of the character of the whole car.

Building and painting tips

Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, so that no mold release agent or uncured resin is left on the surface. Cut the remains of the casting block or the print supports off with a sharp modeling scalpel, sand the surface over and protect your breathing while sanding. Check dry how the tip comes out against the rear bumper and shorten the connecting pipe as needed. Glue it with super glue. Metal paints look best over a smooth glossy base; darken the inside of the mouth with matte black and dust the lower edge lightly with a dark pigment, so that the part does not look freshly unwrapped.
