The real subject

The Sutton harness was the standard pilot restraint system in British fighters and bombers of the period. In the large 1:24 scale the belts and buckles are clearly visible in the cockpit, so a faithful rendering raises the realism of an open cockpit considerably.

Use and tips

• Paint the seat and the surrounding cockpit first and give the area under the decal a gloss coat.
• Cut the part out, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and slide it into place.
• Use a decal softener to bed it over the edges and the buckles; once it is down, do not move it and give it at least 45 minutes.
• The belts can be pressed down gently and shaped to the seat so that they look natural.
