The Starlet of the EP71 generation was built from the mid-1980s and was a light compact car with front-wheel drive, an angular body and an inline four-cylinder engine of around 1.3 liters. It was offered in three-door and five-door forms and in several trim levels, among them more sportingly tuned versions; thanks to their low weight those gained a reputation on the home market as brisk and inexpensive cars. The designation middle version is used by the kit maker to distinguish the individual phases of production, which differ in details of the grille, the lights and the equipment — which is precisely why several boxes of the same type come out, but with a different front end and different accessories.
An angular body from the 1980s forgives fewer mistakes in masking than rounded shapes: run the dividing lines between the paint and the black plastic elements exactly along the edge, or the car will lose its crispness visually. Spray the finish over a primer in thin coats; with period shades it helps to soften the sheen slightly, so that the model does not look like a current car. The glazing and the window frames are prominent on this type — mark the frames with a fine brush or a decal and glue the clear parts with cement made for glazing. Paint the interior before you close the body up, and do not forget small things such as the steering wheel, the gear lever and the belts, which are clearly visible in such a small car.
