A green six-point harness for a stock car

Six anchor points came to the fore in circuit cars the moment it turned out that shoulder and lap straps alone do not hold a driver in a frontal impact: the body slides forward and passes under the lap section. The answer was a pair of anti-submarine straps led between the thighs into a single central lock. The British workshop TRS supplies this geometry to the crews of circuit and competition cars, and the Superlite line is its lightweight version with slimmer fittings and narrower webbing.

The sheet transfers that whole bundle onto the seat of a model reduced to 1:24. It is not a flat print: the straps and the buckles are rendered in color and with relief, so once dry they hold a distinct thickness of webbing and the metal parts separate visually from the strap. The green version suits British circuit specials, where it stands out nicely against the dark shell of the seat.

The procedure does not differ from an ordinary decal. Cut the part out, let it soak off in lukewarm water and move it onto a degreased surface. Longer straps are best pressed down carefully at a bend with a cotton swab so that they follow the edge of the cushion. It pays to work in sections and let each section set, because the bundle consists of several separate bands which may otherwise shift against one another.

In a circuit car the restraint system is only one link in a chain. It is completed by a bucket seat bolted firmly to the cage, a headrest and, in cars with a closed body, a window net as well. If you are building the interior in detail, it is worth considering suggesting at least the anchoring of the straps to the tubes of the roll cage, because the transition between belt and cage tends to be the weakest spot on models.
