American oval racing makes quite different demands on a restraint system than circuit racing in Europe. Cars there run hundreds of laps at high speeds and under long lateral loads, and an impact into a concrete wall comes at a sharp angle. Restraint systems for this discipline were therefore created with the emphasis on holding the driver in the seat with absolutely no slack and at the same time allowing fast extraction, because a crew tends to be got out in a very short time after a crash.
The British brand TRS supplies restraint systems across a whole range of disciplines, and the line carrying the Superlite designation aims at low weight. Red webbing was always among the favorites with American teams and complements the colorful sponsor coats of these cars well.
The strap comes printed in color and with its texture, and the surface of the sheet is raised, so the belt on the seat does not behave like a piece of decal film. The cockpits of oval cars tend to be easy to see into on models, the lattice of the roll cage is exposed and the seat is a prominent feature. An empty shell therefore gives the whole model away.
The cockpit of an oval car has one more peculiarity that builders often deprive themselves of. The seat tends to be surrounded by side supports that wrap around the driver's shoulders and head, and the straps therefore pass between them through fairly narrow guides. If you place the print correctly, the shell gains depth, because the eye is given a scale by which to recalculate the space. A badly placed strap, by contrast, flattens the whole cockpit visually.
