A set of idler wheels for the Panther tank model in 1:35 scale by T-Rex Studio. It is the larger 665 mm type in the solid back form; according to the name the package holds two pieces and the set is prepared for the Takom kit. The wheel of the same diameter with a ribbed back is carried by the manufacturer as a separate item.
On the Panther an idler wheel can be recognized by two features at once: by its diameter and by the look of the inner face of the disc. The smaller 600 mm type and the larger 665 mm type were used in different periods of production, and with the larger type a solid and a ribbed back are distinguished as well. A modeler building a machine from a particular photograph therefore has three versions and decides by the picture. Anyone building without a defined real subject can go by which form matches the other details of their kit.
First compare the diameter of the wheel with the part from the box and with the length of the track, because a larger idler wheel changes the geometry of both the lower and the upper run. Fit the wheel dry and only then glue, using glue according to the material of the parts, that is liquid cement on plastic and cyanoacrylate on resin. Do not forget to paint the back of the disc; on a model raised on a diorama it is visible. Leave a metallic sheen around the rim and fill the recesses with dust and mud so that the wheel matches the weathering of the rest of the running gear.
