An injection-molded plastic kit of the American AMT brand in 1:25 scale from the Craftsman Plus range. That range is built on the principle of the so-called curbside build: instead of a multi-part engine, the set has a simple engine assembly, the parts fit together quickly and the build keeps up its pace. The set comes from new tooling and contains chrome bumpers and wheels, two wheel variants, tires with a red line done at the factory and a color decal sheet. Even so it is meant for more experienced modelers as well, who want a finished model within a few evenings.
The second-generation Pontiac GTO came for the 1968 model year with a shorter wheelbase, a rounded body and above all with a novelty that went down in history: the flexible Endura front bumper color-matched to the body. Hideaway headlights concealed in the grille were offered as an option. The GTO was then regarded as the model for the whole category of mid-size cars with a big engine.
The set is built for pace, so lay out your work: first the body and the paint, and only then the assembly. Cut the parts off with nippers and sand the sprue nub down, so that they seat without play. Glue with liquid cement drop by drop, because with a small number of parts better joints are achieved by accuracy, not by the quantity of glue. Spray the body over filler primer in two or three thin coats; the flexible front bumper of the real subject is best imitated with the same shade as the body at a slightly reduced sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
