About product

Chevrolet Camaro Yenko 1969 in 1:25 scale (AMT)

This injection-molded plastic kit from the American maker AMT represents the Chevrolet Camaro of the 1969 model year in the Yenko form, in 1:25 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:25 scale is the established standard in American car modeling, so the finished car will fit in size among the other models from this field.

The real subject

The first-generation Camaro was the answer of the Chevrolet brand to the success of rival sporting coupes, and the 1969 model year brought its most striking body treatment with sharply cut fenders. The cars designated Yenko were created at the Yenko Chevrolet dealership, which had a big-block V8 of about seven liters of displacement fitted into the Camaro, an engine normally reserved for the larger models of the brand. Different stripes, badges and chassis modifications went with it. Only hundreds of cars were built, which makes the Yenko Camaro one of the most sought-after American cars of its day.

Building and painting tips

Nip the parts off with nippers and sand away the gate remnants. Glue with liquid cement for plastic drawn along the joint by capillary action. Wash the body in lukewarm soapy water before painting to remove the mold release agent. A primer follows, then thin coats of paint from an airbrush and clear gloss varnish; once dry it pays to polish with a cutting compound. The characteristic stripes come out cleaner masked and sprayed than laid down from decals, if you dare to do it. Build and paint the engine bay and the interior before you close the body up.

Who the model is for

  • collectors of American muscle cars
  • modelers who want to practice gloss paint and masked stripes
  • anyone interested in the rare dealer conversions of American cars
  • builders with basic experience of car kits

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yenko cars were created at the dealership of the same name, which had a big-block V8 normally reserved for the larger models fitted into them, together with different stripes, badges and chassis modifications.

It is not. It is a classic plastic kit that has to be assembled and painted. The glue and paints are not included in the package.

First wash the body with soapy water, spray on a primer and then several thin coats of paint. Fine-tune the gloss with clear varnish and, once it has cured, with light polishing using a cutting compound.

The contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions for the kit. On this version the stripes can also be masked and sprayed.
