Masks 1:32 AH-1G Cobra Early for both sides of the glazing cover the frames of the early production machine from the outside and from the inside.
Responsibility details are not available.
The templates are cut for the early production AH-1G in 1:32 scale and they allow for the framing to be sprayed on both sides of the glazing. On large helicopter cockpits the inner face looks straight at the viewer.
The first Cobras reached Southeast Asia in 1967 and carried a single rotary machine gun in the chin turret. Only later machines received a turret fitted with a pair of weapons. Rocket pods hung on the short stub wings and the cockpit remained the most striking feature throughout production: a long greenhouse of angled flat panes through which the whole internal structure is visible. The fuselage stayed this slim because the designers were after the smallest possible frontal cross-section.
First mask and spray the inner side in the cockpit shade, let it set and only then start on the exterior finish. Check the clear part against the light; a small overspray on the inner face shows through the glass at once. Keep the cockpit separate from the fuselage until the painting is finished. Before fitting it, look over the edges against a dark background; excess paint on the joint cannot be put right once the part is glued.
Try the sequence of coats on an offcut first, so that you know how your paint behaves on an edge.
