A sheet of water-slide decals in 1:32 scale for marking a finished model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter. It is the sixth, separately sold part of a series devoted to captured machines, that is, aircraft remarked for test flying by an opponent. The individual parts of the series do not overlap in content, so they can be collected side by side. It is not a kit: the model, the paints and the varnish are not included in the package.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 is a single-engine all-metal low-wing fighter with a retractable undercarriage. The versions of the A series had an air-cooled twin-row radial engine, because of which the nose is short and bulky, while the later series received a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine and a noticeably lengthened nose. The English nickname Butcherbird came about as a translation of the German name of the type. With captured aircraft what is interesting from a modeling point of view is precisely the surface finish: new national insignia and serial numbers were applied over or beside the original markings and the paint is usually patched. A model is therefore built like an ordinary Fw 190 but painted and marked quite differently.
A large scale makes handling easier but highlights every mistake. Give the model a smooth gloss coat, otherwise air is trapped under the carrier film and a silvery veil appears. Cut the subject out close to the printing, dip it for ten to thirty seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest out of the water until it starts to slide along the paper. Settle it on a drop of water, line it up and press the excess out with a soft brush from the center to the edges. Over engraved panels, rivets and flaps use a decal softener: it is applied onto an already positioned decal, the film temporarily wrinkles and during drying settles into the relief by itself, so do not touch it until then. Once it is completely dry, seal the surface with a clear coat, which visually levels the edges of the film and makes it safe to follow with weathering and washes.
This is a standalone decal sheet, not a kit. The model of the aircraft, paints, varnish and a decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
