Complete landing gear bays of the Eagle cast in resin. They replace the empty plastic shells with walls full of spars, runs and units.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a large model the level of the work can be told by the places that are not visible at first glance. The spaces into which the landing gear folds after takeoff are precisely such a place. On the real aircraft they are densely filled cavities where hydraulic pipes, electrical bundles, valves and heat shielding weave between the spars. A model standing on a base has its legs extended and the viewer sees into those spaces from below completely unobstructed.
An injection-molded kit usually offers a smooth tub with two or three ribs suggested, because the mold allows no more. The cast replacement is filled with relief throughout: the walls have a real thickness, the roofs carry runs and reinforcements are apparent in the corners. The difference shows above all once a wash is applied, as it catches in the deep relief and gives the space depth.
Seating it calls for patience. The original tubs are sanded out of the fuselage and wing shells and the new section is glued in so that it lines up with the outline of the opening. It is recommended to try the assembly dry before the fuselage is glued up, because afterwards it can no longer be handled. Do the painting separately and set the finished bay in only at the end.
The castings are adapted to the large Tamiya kits. For painting, a light base and shading with a darker color into the corners suit well. The metal surfaces inside tend to be matte and slightly yellowed by heat, whereas the pipe runs stay light. The contrast between them is what gives a cavity legibility, even when the viewer looks into it from only a narrow angle.
