About product

Quinta Studio 1:32 F/A-18B Early three-dimensional interior decals

Three-dimensional (3D) decals for the interior of the two-seat early series Hornet in 1:32 scale. The elements are printed and in color already from the factory, they carry raised relief of the controls and they are applied on decal paper directly onto the cockpit parts from the kit. You thereby get legible panels without painting small details and deeper detail than a flat photo-etched part can offer. The name lists the set as the smaller variant, so it covers a narrower selection of surfaces than the full version. The set is cut for the Academy kit.

The real subject

The F/A-18B is the two-seat variant derived from the single-seat early series of the Hornet. The rear seat came at the expense of part of the internal fuel capacity, but the aircraft kept its combat capability and was also used for training. The cockpits of the early series have a different instrument layout from the later machines, which is why the manufacturer makes separate sets for the individual forms.

Application tips

Three-dimensional decals are released from the backing paper in water like a decal: the part is soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper into place, where it holds on gloss varnish. A softener or a setting solution, however, is not used on them at all, as they would damage the printed resin layer. Follow the instructions enclosed with the set. In general it pays to have the base degreased and perfectly dry, to lay the parts down with tweezers and to try the fit dry. Do not bend thin segments over sharp edges more than necessary. A final light matting will unify the surface of the interior.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the two-seat early series Hornet in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want a legible cockpit without painting small elements
  • Those who prefer three-dimensional detail to photo-etching
  • More experienced modelers used to precise work with tweezers

This is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory set for the interior. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is a two-seater. The second seat came at the expense of part of the internal fuel capacity, so the layout of the cockpits is different and calls for its own set of decals.

Yes, briefly. The part is soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper into place, where it holds on gloss varnish. Do not use a softener or a setting solution at all, though, as they would damage the printed resin layer. The procedure is given in the instructions for the set.

As a rule no. The set deals with precisely those surfaces that are otherwise handled with photo-etching and paint, that is the instrument panels and the side consoles.

No, it is only a set of decals for the interior. The kit has to be bought separately.

For the Academy kit in 1:32 scale. The plastic parts of the base model are not included in the package.
