An accessory from the maker Kits-World for the cockpit of a model in 1:32 scale. The full-color print with a three-dimensional structure is printed on decal paper and is applied like a decal. In a closed cockpit the instrument panel is the feature that most gives away from close up how much care the interior was given.
The main difference from an ordinary decal is in the base. A thin print adapts itself over unevenness, a layered design does not: on raised cast dials it will stay standing and a silvery rim will appear at the edge. Sand the cast panel flat, then, or at least level the tops of the relief, and smooth the surface with fine abrasive paper. Then check with a dry fit that the outline of the print coincides with the outline of the part, and note which way the design is meant to sit; once it is soaked there is no time for thinking.
Varnish the surface with a gloss varnish. Soak the decal in warm water only until it releases, transfer it with a brush, straighten it and push the water out from under it with a soft cloth. Add the softener drop by drop and rather in two goes; flooding a thick layer leads to rippling. Let it dry thoroughly, then go over the surroundings with a matte varnish and accentuate the glasses of the instruments with a drop of gloss. Unify the sprayed parts of the cockpit in shade with the printed panel, so that they do not come across against one another as two different materials.
