Montex 1:32 Il-2 is a set of self-adhesive masks for spraying a model of the ground-attack aircraft in 1:32 scale. This is not a kit but an accessory for the Hobby Boss kit.

The masks from the Polish manufacturer Montex are cut to shapes matching the outlines of the Hobby Boss kit. They go onto the model, cover the areas that are to stay free of paint and come off once it has been sprayed. They save the most work on the canopy framing, where masking with tape by hand is slow and seldom quite symmetrical. The item is not a model: it is an accessory for a plastic kit.
The Ilyushin Il-2 was a Soviet single-engine ground-attack aircraft built to strike at targets on the ground. Its fundamental design feature was an armored bathtub that formed the load-bearing part of the forward fuselage and protected the engine, the radiators and the pilot. The aircraft had a liquid-cooled engine and was built in large numbers in several versions, which differed in armament, wing and crew size.
The canopy of a ground-attack aircraft has heavy frames and flat panels, so the masks hold well, but every paint bleed shows all the more. Degrease the glazing before the masks go on and move them with tweezers. If you are planning heavy weathering, leave the masks on the model as long as you can: they will protect the glazing from washes and pigments too, which are hard to get off smooth clear plastic. Lay the finish on in thin coats and check between them that no step has formed. Wipe adhesive residue away afterwards with a cotton bud moistened with water.
This is an add-on masking set, not a kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
