Art Scale 1:32 Ki-84 Hayate, double-sided masking set is a set of pre-cut masks for spraying the canopy framing of the Japanese fighter from both sides. It is not a kit but an accessory for a build.

The set contains masks cut to the outline of the clear parts of the Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate model in 1:32 scale. It is neither a model nor a kit, but an aid for painting that replaces the tedious trimming of masking tape with a knife directly on the glazing. The shapes are cut for the particular Hasegawa kit, so they line up with the engraved framing. The double-sided designation means that the set allows for masking the clear part from the outside and from the inside; the framing of the sliding section of the canopy can then be sprayed in the interior color from inside, which is a clearly visible detail in a large scale.
The real subject
The Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate was a single-engine fighter of the Japanese Army Air Force from the late period of the Second World War. It was powered by a powerful Nakajima Homare radial engine, the design had retractable landing gear, a good rate of climb and, by Japanese standards, heavier armament and armor protection. It was among the most technically advanced Japanese fighters of its day.
Wash and degrease the clear part, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift the individual masks off the sheet with a sharp point or tweezers and lay them down so that the edge lines up with the engraved frame; work the pressure from the center outward. Go over the edges once more with a toothpick, as that is where the cleanliness of the edge is decided. Spray in thin coats and preferably in several passes; a heavy coat peels when the mask is lifted. The usual order is the interior color, then the primer and the covering shade of the exterior. Lift the mask once the paint has dried, while it is not yet fully cured. Remove glue residue with a mild product that will not attack clear plastic.
It is a masking accessory for a build, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
