This is a resin accessory, not an aircraft model. The set replaces the landing gear doors, that is the covers that close the wheel wells when the gear is up and hang beside the gear legs when it is down. A resin casting allows a finer edge thickness and sharper detail on the inner side than can be made in injected plastic. It is intended for the late version of the MC.202 and for the MC.205; a separate set in the same range covers the early MC.202, so watch which variant you are building when you choose.

The real subject

The Macchi MC.202 Folgore and the MC.205 Veltro that followed it were Italian single-engine fighters of the Second World War, powered by a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine. Both versions share much of the airframe and differ mainly in the engine and the armament; the landing gear doors are among the parts whose shape became uniform on the late machines.

Usage tips

• Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with detergent, as mold release agent residue tends to be on the surface and paint would not hold on it.
• Cut the casting block off with a saw or a knife, do not snap it off; resin is brittle.
• Always sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust must not be inhaled.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary modeling cement for polystyrene does not work on plastic of this kind.
• Apply a primer before painting, otherwise acrylic holds less well on smooth resin.

Who the set is for

For modelers who are building the Macchi in 1:32 scale and want to improve the most visible detail of the landing gear without touching the rest of the model. It is a small but effective change, because the open doors are clearly visible when the model is seen from below and from the front.

The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled, without glue and paints. It is not a stand-alone model.
