An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 fighter in the tropical version (Trop) in 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. This large, detailed model of the Friedrich offers a richly appointed cockpit, a detailed engine bay and the glazing of the F series. The tropical version also has a dust filter on the intake. The large scale brings out the full range of detail; the set usually also contains photo-etched parts.
The Bf 109F, the Friedrich, was the aerodynamically cleanest version of the Messerschmitt — it received rounded wingtips, a retractable tailwheel and a smoother cowling. The F-4 version of 1941 and 1942 carried the Daimler-Benz DB 601E engine and a central MG 151/20 engine cannon firing through the propeller hub. The tropical machines with the special filter fought in North Africa, where famous fighter pilots flew them — the best known was Hans-Joachim Marseille.
First finish the cockpit and the engine bay, and only then close the fuselage. Protect the glazing with masks. Spray a primer as the base and then the desert RLM scheme; bring out the panels with a wash and suggest heavy desert wear with drybrushing and dust pigments. Add the markings and the tactical numbers from the decal sheet.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
