Masking set for the French Morane-Saulnier MS.406, 1:32 scale. It masks the canopy from the outer and the inner face and adds three insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the fighting flared up over France, the MS.406 formed the backbone of the fighter groups there. Its Hispano-Suiza V12 gave it performance that was not enough against the German machines of the day, but a cannon firing through a hollow shaft sat in the propeller axis and one hit from it was enough to inflict heavy damage. The fuselage combined a metal frame with a skin of light panels, and the construction was simple enough for the aircraft to be repaired under field conditions.
French markings of 1940 belong among the more laborious things you can choose. The circular cockades have three concentric fields and the rudder carries vertical stripes. Every color means its own pass with the airbrush, with drying and a fresh alignment of the mask in between. Against a single decal, which you lay down in a minute, this is a whole evening's work.
The reward is markings with no carrier and no glossy rim that will take subsequent sanding during weathering. On a model in this scale the difference is visible at a glance.
Spray from the lightest shade to the darkest and give the paint a good half hour between passes. Laying the mask down again in a hurry on a coat that has not dried will lift the first layer.
The glazing and the national insignia are covered. Serial numbers, group markings and any quick-recognition markings remain the job of decals. Include that in your shopping plan so that the build does not stall at the moment when the paint is finished and the markings are missing.
The pieces are arranged on the backing by the logic of the cut, not by the order of application. It therefore pays to go through the whole sheet first and only then to pick up the tweezers.
