An injection-molded plastic model of the celebrated North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale from the Trumpeter brand. The designation Mustang IV is the British name under which this type served with the RAF and the Allied air forces. The large 1:32 scale allows rich detail of the airframe, the engine bay and the cockpit; the box holds photo-etched parts and multi-piece cockpit glazing.
The P-51D was the ultimate production version of the Mustang, with the characteristic teardrop, or bubble, canopy that gave a view in all directions, and with heavier machine gun armament. Its powerplant was the license-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (Packard V-1650), thanks to which the Mustang gained excellent performance at high altitude and a long range. It served above all as a bomber escort fighter and was deployed on a number of fronts of the Second World War.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Finish and paint the engine bay and the cockpit before closing the fuselage; it is advisable to mask the cockpit glazing. The natural metal surface of many Mustangs calls for a good primer and metallic paints applied with an airbrush onto a smoothly sanded airframe.
