The grass tufts from the fantasy line of AK Interactive are, according to the name, two millimeters high and a rich yellow. They are neither paint nor a kit, but ready-made growth that is transferred straight onto a base or onto the area of a scene.
The fantasy line deliberately leaves the shades of a real meadow behind. Yellow is the most striking among them and behaves like light: it draws the eye to where the maker wants it. It will come into its own on the bases of figures for tabletop games, in exotic and dreamlike landscapes, in science fiction scenes and everywhere the growth is meant to look scorched by the sun or simply other than earthly. Two millimeters moreover mean low, dense growth that will not cover the detail of a figure or of the terrain beneath it.
Lay the tufts out in irregular clusters and leave free space between them; a continuous carpet looks artificial. Yellow stands out best on a dark base, that is on brown soil, scorched earth or gray stone. If you want to soften the transition, round the edges of a cluster out with scatter material in a similar tone. Once seated, a tuft can be carefully trimmed with scissors into an uneven silhouette.
