1:32 B5N2 Kate open canopy - double-sided express mask is an Art Scale masking set for a model of the Japanese carrier aircraft built with an open canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set serves to cover the glazing and other areas while paint is being sprayed. According to the name it is the variant for a model built with an open canopy and a rendition that allows for masking the glazing from both sides. It is made by Art Scale.
Outlining frames by hand with a brush almost always ends in an uneven line. Pre-cut shapes follow the run of the frames, so the paint edge is crisp and the same all over the model. With an open canopy, moreover, the inner side of the canopy is visible too, and that is exactly where a double-sided rendition shows its worth most.
The Nakajima B5N2 was a carrier torpedo and bomber aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy, listed by the Allies under the code name Kate. A Nakajima Sakae radial engine powered it, the wings folded upwards for stowage in the hangar and the crew consisted of three men. In the B5N2 version the machine took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the fighting that followed in the Pacific. In the large 1:32 scale both the long glazed canopy and the intricate cockpit beneath it stand out, and that is also why it pays to take care over the frames on this type.
