1:35 Animal Serie - Normand Cow No.1 is a diorama element in 1:35 scale from Dynamo-Models, intended for rural and combat scenes from Normandy.
Responsibility details are not available.
It belongs to the Animal Serie range of Dynamo-Models and offers a farm animal as an accessory to a scene, not a model of a machine. In 1:35 scale it is used as an element that gives a diorama a setting and a scale comparison: beside a tank or an armored vehicle it shows at once and readably how large the vehicle really was. The designation No.1 tells the individual items of the range apart, and they can be combined into a larger herd.
Normande cattle are a traditional French breed kept for milk as well as for meat. You can tell them by the brindled brown and white markings and by the characteristic dark patches around the eyes, known as spectacles. Pastures bounded by banks and hedgerows, the so-called bocage, are among the most typical features of the Normandy landscape, and it was precisely in this terrain that the fighting after the landings took place in the summer of 1944. Cattle in the pastures thus found themselves right in the area of the battlefield, and in period photographs from the narrow Normandy lanes they appear beside passing vehicles.
Leave the boundary between the brown patches and the white coat soft rather than sharply edged - the markings read more naturally when the edges are blended gently. Play the base tone out with a darker shade into the folds of the hide and a lighter one along the back. The hooves and the lower legs can take mud effects that link the animal to the base. The coat is matte, so varnish the result matte; leave the sheen only on the eyes and the nostrils. It comes out best in a pasture scene with a hedgerow, where it forms a calm counterpoint to the vehicles.
