An item from the modern figure line of Black Dog. Crew figures are among the accessories that give a finished vehicle both scale and a story: an empty hatch looks static and the hardware beside it looks smaller than it really is. The moment a figure appears out of the hatch, the viewer judges the dimensions at once, and also what is going on in the scene.
It comes off most naturally at a halt in a column on a dusty track, at the gate of a forward base or during a short conference outside the vehicle. In Afghanistan Australian units relied mainly on wheeled armored and protected patrol vehicles, so the crew fits models of modern wheeled armor just as well as a tracked chassis.
Before you seat the figures permanently, try them dry in the hatch. With crews it is the height of the shoulders above the rim that decides, not the overall size of the figure. Choose the shades of the equipment on the faded side, because sharp contrasting colors look toylike in this scale. Mix the dust on the boots, knees and shoulders from the same pigment you use on the fenders and the lower part of the vehicle, or the result will look as though it were put together from two different days.
