A small accessory in 1:35 scale from the 49A modeling range. It represents a crate, exactly the kind of equipment that turns a bare vehicle or an empty stretch of a diorama into a lived-in scene.
Crates are stowed in the cargo spaces of trucks and trailers, stacked in heaps at gun positions, carried on fenders and beds or spread about a base. In 1:35 scale they are large enough that it pays to work the painting and the wear on them properly. They also work well in twos and threes: one open, the others closed and stacked on top of each other.
First seat the part dry and check that it lines up with its surroundings. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully. Before painting, wash the surface, degrease it and let it dry completely. Lay the paint on in thin coats; crates take strong shading and a dry brush well, and it is exactly they that give a scene its sense of scale and its used look. Add the markings and lettering only once the base color is dry. Set wood and metal apart in one scene by shade and sheen rather than by a bold change of color.
The exact version and the contents of the package are given by the manufacturer on the box; the same crate also comes in 1:48 and 1:72 scales. Paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
