An injection-molded plastic kit of the light robotic machine designated Chubu 01 in 1:35 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The model belongs to the science fiction part of the range, where the manufacturer builds on technically believable machines rather than on fantasy shapes. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The designation light mechatrobot suggests that this is a compact working or escort machine, not a sizeable combat giant. Science fiction subjects of this kind come out of the idea of machines designed for real work: a compact body, visible joints and drives, simple equipment and a surface that carries the marks of service. Unlike models of real hardware, a machine like this has no binding period scheme, so the color choices are entirely up to the builder, from a factory finish with warning markings to a dusty machine after a long shift.
Smaller science fiction models are made up of a relatively large number of small assemblies, which are easily mixed up. It pays to cut the parts off the sprue only at the moment you really need them and to keep trying them dry. Assemble the body, the limbs and the outer covers separately and paint them before you join them; once they are together you will not reach the joints. Sand the gate marks on the curved areas down with a fine sanding stick and polish them, otherwise they will stand out under a gloss varnish. The surface comes last: a dark wash into the panel gaps brings out the divisions, a dry brush on the edges draws out the shape, and fine dust around the lower part of the model sets it in its surroundings. The model also works well as a figure in a smaller diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
