Wooden fencing in 1:35 scale: three fence sections complemented with wooden strips for building on as you need.
Responsibility details are not available.
A fence is the one diorama accessory whose main job is not to be seen but to set a boundary. A base always has an edge, and that edge looks artificial until something explains it. Fencing in 1:35 scale solves this problem elegantly: the viewer accepts that beyond the fence the scene simply carries on out of sight, and they stop noticing the edge of the base.
The set holds three sections of wooden fencing and wooden strips to go with them. That is an unusual make-up, because it combines finished assemblies with raw stock: the strips make it possible to extend the fence, turn a corner or add a gate exactly to the dimensions of a particular base, which finished castings on their own do not allow.
A straight fence across the whole width of the base rather cuts the scene in two. It is more effective to run it diagonally or to break it in one place, because a gap in the fencing creates a way through and a way through draws the eye. A missing or torn-down section of the fence is also a simple way to suggest that something drove past here.
Unstained wood is a rewarding material: it takes a thin oil glaze that brings out the grain, and it stands up to dry brushing in gray for a weathered wood effect. It pays to darken the posts near the ground, because that is exactly where the damp clings. Paints and building materials are not in the package.
Leave the ends of the strips rough. A square cut looks like sawmill timber, whereas a frayed end matches a fence built by the owner's own hand.
Leave the bottom edge of the boards slightly irregular above the terrain, so that the fencing does not sit on the ground like a cut-out strip.
