An Eastern Europe diorama base in 1:35 scale is a resin casting intended for the installation of a finished vehicle model or figures. It is not a kit and not a model.

A resin casting from the Czech maker Black Dog, which gives a finished model a setting and a sense of scale. The base carries terrain relief in the style of an Eastern European landscape and buildings, so a vehicle model or a group of figures stops looking like a part in a display case and starts to tell a scene. It is supplied unpainted, as a raw casting ready for work.
It replaces the laborious building of a base from polystyrene, plaster and texture compounds: the shape of the terrain is already finished and the modeler is left only with color, patina and the seating of the model. It serves as a stand for a single vehicle, as the foundation of a small vignette and as part of a larger scene into which the base can be built with the edges masked.
First wash the casting in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to remove the residue of the mold release agent, or the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off and level the surface, and fill any small bubbles with putty. A primer and a base shade sprayed on with an airbrush follow, then transitions with a dry brush and a dark wash into the recesses. Pigments at the end create dust and mud; use them sparingly, or the scene will go flat. Place the model dry, and only after the position has been tried out fix it with superglue or epoxy and cover the joint with terrain texture. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection.
The base is supplied unpainted and with no model. Paints, glue, figures and the vehicle are not included in the package.
