This set piece from the Plusmodel diorama line captures the corner of an industrial building completed by a stairway. A corner is among the most economical ways of creating the impression of a large object in a small area. It is a scenic element, not a kit of equipment; the 1:35 scale is given in the name.
A corner shows two walls at once, so the viewer imagines the rest of the object – and the scene takes a fraction of the room. The steps moreover bring a difference in height, which can be used to place a figure above the level of the terrain and to bring an otherwise flat composition to life. A natural place thus comes about to which the viewer's eye returns again and again. A corner also makes work with light easier, because each of the walls gets a different brightness.
A stairway is a magnet for detail: worn treads, fallen leaves or a crate set aside will give it life.
