A figure in 1:35 scale from Dynamo-Models. According to the name it represents a French officer of 1940 and is meant for dioramas from the French campaign, whether as a command figure beside a vehicle or as a separate object for a display case.
The French army entered the fighting in May 1940 with a doctrine built on firm defense and on controlled direction of the battle from the rear. The officer corps differed in appearance from the rank and file more markedly than in other armies of the time: a better cut tunic, riding breeches with high boots or puttees, a map case, binoculars and headgear with rank insignia. In a scene such a figure therefore works as a natural focus, because the viewer's eye goes to it first. The short campaign of 1940 meanwhile remains less worked over in modeling than the later phases of the war, which is an opportunity for diorama builders.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry. With an officer figure it pays off to set the quality of the cloth apart: the tunic can be smoother and more saturated than the coarse uniform of the rank and file, while leather accessories take a dark base and lightened edges well. Paint the small insignia on the collar or on the headgear only at the end with a sharp brush tip. The figure comes out best in the role of a commander beside a vehicle, over an unfolded map or in conversation with another figure.
