A resin multi-figure set in 1:35 with a genre subject: figures of a tank crew playing with a puppy. It is an add-on to a finished vehicle model or for a diorama, not a kit. It is exactly such restful, civilian scenes that give a diorama scale and a human dimension, and they tend to be a rewarding subject at competitions as well as in a display case.
The workmanship
The figures are conceived as a group with poses that follow on from one another and share a focus of the action. The combined black overall of a tank crew has smooth surfaces and pronounced lapels, which from the point of view of painting is a different task from camouflaged clothing: it is the work with light that decides, not the drawing of a pattern. The small animal is a small casting with a fine rendering of the fur. Check the exact number of figures and how they are split into parts against the illustration on the packaging.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the faces after the cut with a file; sanding resin is best done wet and with your breathing protected. With the small animal casting proceed especially carefully, as the thin legs break easily. Lay the figures out dry, so that you keep the common focus of the scene, and only then glue with cyanoacrylate glue and fill the gaps.
Never build a black overall out of pure black. Start from a very dark gray or a dark blue-gray and pull the edges and the crests of the folds out gradually with light; only then does the surface gain volume. Deepen the shadows instead with a thin dark wash. Build the fur of the animal with glazes from a darker base toward the lighter ends of the hairs, and fill the drawing in with a dry brush. Paint the skin and the faces separately; in a genre scene it pays to give time to the expression. Bring the whole together with a matte clear coat and dust the lower parts of the figures with pigment to match the base of the diorama.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
