1:35 Hunting the Partisans Yugoslavia 1943

Figure set 1:35 — Yugoslavia 1943 theme (Dragon)

A set of four injection-molded plastic figures in 1:35 scale from Dragon. It is a diorama accessory, not a vehicle model: the figures are meant to complete a scene set in the Balkans of 1943. The set holds three figures of German mountain troops and one figure of an Italian soldier, each with the matching uniform, equipment and personal weapon.

Set contents

The centerpiece is a two-man machine gun crew in a firing position. It comes with two alternative sets of legs, so the figures can be seated on level or on sloping ground — with dioramas built on rocky terrain that is a practical convenience, because it saves cutting and filling. The package also holds a plastic part imitating the rock that the prone figure leans on. The remaining figures are posed standing and on the move, which leaves freedom in laying the scene out.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel and sand the parting seams on the sleeves and trouser legs with fine paper — on a finished figure they show up clearly otherwise. Glue the figures together, but keep the heads and arms separate until the basic painting is done; attach them to the body only at the end. Uniforms are built up in layers: a base shade, a darker shadow in the folds and a lighter cast on the raised surfaces. Paint the faces with a fine-tipped brush, working from a darker base toward the lighter areas. Finish by evening the surface out with a matte varnish that unifies the sheen of the paints.
