This item is not a vehicle kit but a diorama accessory: an Italian country house as the architectural set piece of a scene in 1:35 scale. It is the choice of building that decides where the view takes place - a southern farm puts the vehicles in the Mediterranean just as reliably as a palm or dry grass, and it does so without the scene slipping into a picture postcard.
Italian rural farmsteads have a distinctive look: a compact block of a house, small windows, a low-set entrance and a tile roof, often with an external stair to the upper floor and the farm part on the ground floor. The Italian campaign was fought around buildings like these, from the landings in Sicily in 1943 through Salerno and Monte Cassino to the fighting in the Po valley in 1945. The farm therefore suits Allied and German vehicles of that period and serves a postwar or civilian view just as well.
The compact mass of the house stands up to being seen from every side, so it also suits the middle of a base with a road running around it. Work with differences in the height of the terrain - the Italian landscape is sloping, and a vehicle tilted on a slope beside a wall looks livelier than a flat surface. Accessories such as low walls, paving and dry vegetation in the same scale finish the story of the scene. The modeler chooses the vehicles and figures to suit the subject.
