A street lamp in 1:35 scale made of resin parts with a photo-etched fret, a vertical landmark element for a town diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
An impression of size does not come on a diorama from the area of the base, but from the tallest object on it. Street lighting is extraordinarily effective in this respect, because its real height is firmly set and the viewer knows it subconsciously. As soon as a lamp in 1:35 scale stands beside a figure or a vehicle, the ratio is settled and the scene stops looking like a tabletop toy.
The set is built from resin castings complemented with a fret of photo-etched parts. The photo-etched parts carry the sections where the thinness of the profile matters: the hanging arm, the anchor straps, the shaped details of the head. A casting would have to be thicker in these places than the real subject allows.
A single lamp is strongest when it stands off center. Placed in the middle it halves the composition and the viewer gets stuck on it; shifted toward the edge it works instead as a vertical frame that returns the gaze to the main action. It is also useful to decide whether the lamp is sound or leaning. Leaning it by a few degrees does more for a scene than any amount of rubble.
Free the castings of casting remnants and degrease them, and bend the photo-etched parts over an edge. A cast iron post is painted with a dark base and the upper part gradually lightened, otherwise the whole mast will merge with the background. The package does not hold lighting, wiring or paints.
Do not glue the mast perpendicular to the board of the base, but perpendicular to the surface it stands on. Where a street slopes, that difference shows at first glance.
