It is a small part, but it is among those that immediately give away the situation a vehicle is captured in. Modelers who build equipment on a training area, at a parade or during an exercise reach for it precisely because otherwise a model is indistinguishable from a vehicle in live use. The set is not a model of a weapon nor of a vehicle — it is an accessory for a kit you already have.
The adapter is fitted onto the muzzle of a machine gun barrel and alters the course of gas pressure so that the weapon works reliably even with blank cartridges, which have no bullet. At the same time it mechanically prevents a live round from being loaded, and that is why it tends to be deliberately conspicuous in color, so that it is visible at first glance. It is used during training and at demonstrations, and on American equipment it can be seen on machine guns at gunners' stations and on remotely operated weapon stations.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent from the mold leaves the surface — without that, neither paint nor primer will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the remainder down with abrasive paper wet and always with protection for your airways; resin dust must not be breathed in. With parts as small as these it pays to leave them on the casting block until the end and to use it as a handle while painting. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting, lay a thin layer of primer on. Apply the conspicuous shade of the adapter over a white base, so that it is a rich and clean color, and then dust it only lightly, so that the model and the detail belong together in color.
It is an accessory set, not a complete model. The basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
