The 1:35 scale works well with a helicopter of this size: the model stays reasonably large for a display case, yet it carries enough detail to be completed with figures and vehicles from the usual 1:35 range.
The MQ-8B Fire Scout is an unmanned helicopter developed for the US Navy. It is based on the airframe of a light piston-engine helicopter and rebuilt for unmanned operation with a turboshaft engine, a four-blade main rotor and a set of sensors under the fuselage. The machine is intended for operations from the decks of surface ships, where it provides reconnaissance, surveillance and the relaying of data. Thanks to its small dimensions and folding blades it fits into ship hangars that would be cramped for a conventional helicopter.
The helicopter has a delicate structure — on the thin booms and struts use a thin glue applied with a small brush, so that the surface does not get flooded. Assemble the rotor head dry and check the angles of the blades, and only then glue. Paint and fit the cockpit, or rather the sensor section, before you close it. Gray naval paints look best when you bring them to life with slight differences of shade on the panels and accentuate the engraving with a thin wash. The landing gear and the underside of the fuselage deserve a fine patina of salt and service grime.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
