This is a resin accessory set from the ELEFANT brand in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a replacement for the simplified plastic parts of the running gear. The set addresses the late cast variant of the idler wheel, that is the form with a coarser cast surface, on which, according to the name, the raised casting number is reproduced as well. Its extent is enough for one vehicle.
The idler wheel is placed at the rear end of the running gear and tensions the track through a swing arm; it is not driven. The chassis of the Pz. IV series and of the vehicles derived from it developed during production, and idler wheels occurred in several forms. The late cast variant replaced the earlier welded wheels, because casting was simpler to produce. Foundry marks and the number of the casting pattern tend to be visible on the surface of a casting, which is exactly the type of detail that on a model reveals the particular production period of the vehicle.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating surface so that the wheel sits true and the track does not twist. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The cast surface stands out if you bring it up after the base coat with a dark wash and a fine dry brush. The raised casting number can be emphasized with a thin dark shade applied with the tip of a brush. Fit the wheels only after the tracks are in place, so that you do not have to aim them into a finished running gear.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
