The F-15J is the Japanese license version of the twin-engine F-15 fighter, built in Japan and taken into service with the Air Self-Defense Force. It is a single-seat machine conceived for winning air superiority: a large wing area, two powerful turbofan engines with afterburners and a high thrust-to-weight ratio give it good rate of climb and agility at greater altitudes. The machines went through several avionics upgrade programs during their service. Characteristic features of the appearance are the twin fins and the angular air intakes with a movable leading section.
In 1:72 it pays to start with the cockpit: the instrument panel and the seat are visible only through the canopy once the fuselage is closed, but it is exactly they that set the impression the finished model makes. Fill the joints of the fuselage and the wing roots and sand them with fine abrasive paper, and accent the engraved panel lines beforehand so that they can be restored after sanding. The gray two-tone camouflage of this type is best sprayed with an airbrush over a soft masked edge. Before the decals, coat the areas with gloss clear, use a decal softener once it has dried, and finally unify the surface with a matte or satin clear coat. It is practical to paint the figure separately and to fit it only at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
