A detail set from T-Rex Studio in 1:35 scale that replaces the drive sprockets of the PzKpfw II light tank. The resin castings offer finer teeth and cleaner pressings of the disk than injected plastic. The manufacturer offers variant A and variant B, both additionally in a form adapted to different plastic kits. This item is cut for the Dragon kit, so the mounting and the dimension of the hub match its running gear. The set is not a kit of the tank but an accessory for one.
The running gear is visible from the side along its whole length on a tank model, and the drive sprocket is its most conspicuous part. In injected plastic the teeth are rounded off by the parting line of the mold and the openings tend to be only suggested. A resin casting does not have this tie to the mold, so the teeth can be sharp and the pressings see-through. The difference shows most on models with sagging tracks, where the sprocket partly stands out from the outline.
Before building, wash the parts in warm water with detergent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the remains wet with respiratory protection. Dry-fit the sprockets together with the tracks, because an inaccuracy in the axis shows up as the track tightening or, conversely, slipping off. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, leave the sprockets separate until the end, use a dark wash between the teeth and suggest the wear on the contact faces with graphite or a dark metallic. Finally tie the whole running gear together with dust pigments.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that this is the standard matching both your subject and your kit.
