A resin replacement for the plastic drive sprocket for models of the PzKpfw IV tank in 1:35 scale. This is not a kit of the vehicle but a single running gear part. The set is aimed explicitly at the late form, which is crucial for the build: the PzKpfw IV was produced for a long time and the drive sprockets changed over that time, so an early and a late sprocket cannot be mixed on one vehicle. The casting is conceived as disassembled, with the individual parts of the sprocket separate.
On the PzKpfw IV the drive sprocket is at the front and is among the best visible elements of the suspension. Its form was simplified and changed during production, so choosing the right variant is one of the details by which it can be told whether a model matches a particular version of the vehicle. That is precisely why variant A and variant B of the late form exist side by side, and it is worth comparing the shape of the sprocket with pictorial references for the version being built.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw; on a toothed rim snapping risks chipping a tooth off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; polystyrene cement will not dissolve resin. Apply a primer before painting. The teeth stand out when a dark wash runs into the recesses and the edges of the teeth are carefully rubbed with a dark metallic shade, because it was on them that the paint wore off first on the real vehicle.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
