Injection-molded plastic kit of the 9P157-2 combat vehicle, that is the launcher element of the Russian Khrizantema-S anti-tank missile system, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. Models from this brand in that scale tend to be rich in parts and usually also hold a small photo-etched fret.
Khrizantema-S is a self-propelled anti-tank system built on a tracked chassis derived from the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle. The launcher is stowed in the hull and is raised above it before use, so the vehicle can keep a low silhouette at rest. The main feature of the system is its guidance: the missiles can be steered through two independent channels, one radar in the millimeter-wave band and one laser. The radar channel allows it to work even in reduced visibility, where optical means fail. The vehicle is conceived as a specialized asset that accompanies units and acts against armored targets at greater ranges.
On a tracked vehicle, finish the running gear, the suspension and the inside of the hull before you close the hull up, because once it is glued there are many places you cannot reach. Dry-fit the tracks on the wheels and only then glue them; with individual links, let the joints dry on a form shaped to the sag. The launcher and its raising mechanism call for accurate fitting, otherwise the part that swings up will not line up on the axis. Bring the plain single-color finish to life by lightening the upper surfaces, with a dark wash into the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Keep the mud and dust effects mainly on the running gear and the lower hull, and ease them off higher up.
