An add-on set of photo-etched metal from the maker Tetra Model Works for a plastic kit of the T-80U main battle tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit and not a finished model, but an improvement that is glued onto a kit already built or under construction. On modern subjects the benefit of photo-etch is evident above all on grilles, covers, brackets and thin sheet metal elements, which injection-molded plastic cannot produce in a thickness true to scale. The exact contents of the package are given by the maker on the packaging, which is why they are not specified here.

The T-80U is a modernized version of the Soviet T-80 series main battle tank, which differed from the other tanks of its generation in being powered by a gas turbine. The armament consists of a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader and the ability to launch guided missiles through the barrel. Protection is completed by explosive reactive armor on the front of the hull and the turret. Thanks to the turbine the machine is very brisk, and at the same time it has a high fuel consumption, which shows in the typical auxiliary tanks at the rear.
The most common mistake with photo-etch is an excess of superglue. Put a drop on a piece of film and carry it to the part with a pin; the joint then stays clean and the glue does not creep into the surrounding structure. Any dried glue left behind can be carefully removed with a glass fiber pencil. Degrease the metal parts before painting and lay on a primer, or the paint will rub off when handled. On modern subjects it pays to glue the photo-etch on only after the plastic joints have been filled and sanded, so that the small elements are not damaged. Keep weathering on metal sparing; metal takes it differently from plastic.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted, with no glue and no base kit. Verify before buying that the set matches the kit you own.
