1:35 Sd.Kfz. 251 & 11 Front Wheels (Deka Grip)

What the set solves

The steered wheels stand at the front of a half-track vehicle, outside the tracked running gear, and nothing covers them. The shape of the tire and the legibility of the tread therefore affect the final impression more than many a part inside the body. The set offers a pair of front wheels for the Sd.Kfz. 251 and Sd.Kfz. 11, that is for vehicles with the same front axle, and replaces the parts from the kit.

The tread variant

The Deka Grip marking in the name determines the tread pattern. Vehicles of the period received tires from several suppliers, so two machines of the same type could each have a different pattern. Anyone building from a particular photograph will choose the variant that matches the picture; for everyone else the set at least gives a consistent and sharply legible tread on both wheels.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as paint does not hold on a greasy surface.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Make sure the tread pattern points the same way on both wheels, as the opposite rotation shows at once when viewed from the front.
• Fit the wheels dry first and check the wheel track and that they stand square.
• Paint the rubber dark gray, as pure black looks flat at 1:35.
• Super glue proves itself for joining them to the model.
